Mostly utilised by athletes before and after events, but beneficial to all, sports massage alleviates lactic acid build up, tension, trigger points, fascial tightness, metabolic build up, fatigue, swelling, muscle shortness and postural imbalances.

Techniques such as, deep tissue, friction massage, fascial unwinding, effleurage, trigger point release, stretching, compression and kneading are used to achieve improve blood flow and tissue condition asisting the recovery of strains, aches and pains.

Sports massage for the Athlete

Optimal condition should be the first priority for anyone who is training for their chosen sport. Whether you are looking to maintain your condition or looking to improve your performance, a progressive training regime will push your body to its limits. It’s crucial to include sports massage to ensure injury prevention, improve flexibility and improve performance.

Sports massage for the Non Athlete

No matter if you’re an athlete training for an event or someone who sits all day, postural strains and tension builds up in certain tissues. Over time, these can develop and cause postural imbalances leading to injury and pain. Sports massage can help alleviate these niggling aches and pains before they become more chronic injuries.

Fascia

Fascia is an incredible tissue in the body, responsible for load balancing, distributing weight-bearing, whilst giving shape and form to the entire body’s framework. A great deal of research and understanding has been made at The Aark Clinic on how crucial fascia is to our biomechanical movement patterns and fluid dynamics. Our highly trained therapist Lloyd Tilney understands the importance of treating the fascial tissue.

Kinesio Taping

Working on the fascia to retrain dysfunctional tissue, we will utilise Kinesio taping at the end of the treatment if we feel it will benefit your injury. Working on the fascial layer beneath the skin, Kinesio taping can be used to influence the chemical messages and fluid dynamics in the fascia around the injured tissue. It can be applied for many reasons such as to reduce swelling, bruising and reducing pain. It can be used to change the ‘signalling’ to a muscle i.e to improve muscle activation.

The tape is water resistant and can be used in sports and can be worn for unto 5 days, providing prolonged treatment to aid healing & improved movement patterns.

Myofascial Release

Connective tissue is the most abundant tissue in the body. It connects everything to everything and provides a gateway of communication across the whole body. Pulling the fascia in one area causes a drag on tissues in another area. Habitual movement patterns, stress and strains can lead to dysfunction and injury. In traditional medicine this tissue is stripped to focus on other tissues, however, recent research is uncovering just how integral this its is to overall health and wellbeing. We pride ourselves at The Aark Clinic in always staying at the forefront of research and treatment techniques.
