Will you get in touch with my GP?

The only time we will contact your GP is when the case history or examination reveals a reason to. This may be reasons such as the need for further testing to confirm a diagnosis and/or to refer for other medical treatment. This will only be conducted with your written consent to do so.

Is Osteopathic treatment painful?

For the majority of treatments, patients will experience no pain. Some Osteopathic treatment techniques can cause a mild degree of soreness as they initiate the healing process. This will only be felt for up to 48 hours approx.

Are you registered?

All osteopaths in the UK are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

Osteopaths are required to renew their registration each year to retain an annual licence to practise. As part of this process, the GOsC checks that osteopaths have current professional indemnity insurance, remain in good health and of good character, and have met mandatory continuing professional development requirements. Do I need to remove any clothing for treatment?

No. Whilst it is helpful to remove top layers of clothing to examine movement patterns, we always try to keep clothing on to protect modesty.

Do you accept Private Healthcare patients?

No. We only accept self paying patients.

Are there any risks or side effects to treatment?

Osteopaths are trained to assess the presenting complaint, and make clinical diagnosis. They use this to offer Patients treatment options that their training, experience & clinical judgement indicates will offer the best care & results to Patients. Your Osteopath will give you a clear explanation of their diagnosis and discuss a treatment plan that is suitable for you, which may include lifestyle changes. They will explain the benefits and risks of the treatment they are recommending during the appointment and will gain your informed consent.It may require more than one visit before your problem is resolved. The Osteopath will review your progress at each subsequent visit and seek consent to any changes to your treatment plan.

What is informed consent?

Informed Consent means Understanding the Risks and giving Consent to Treatment.


Most people are familiar with side effects & risks associated to Medications, Operations, Aesthetic procedures and some other common Medical procedures but some people may not be aware Osteopathy also comes with some side effects & potential Risks. It is important for all Patients to enter into treatment knowingly and with consent.

 

Your Osteopath will let you know why they feel the Treatment plan is the best course of action, they will explain associated risks vs benefits and then it will be your choice as to whether you would like to move forward with each and every part of the treatment.

Mild adverse reactions to Osteopathic treatment are very common. This can include things like muscle soreness, minor bruising etc that may last a few days. Moderate adverse effects can occur. These may last longer than a few days but do not require medical treatment. Serious adverse reactions to Osteopathic treatment are extremely rare but unfortunately can happen.

What do I do if I have concerns? (Before, During & After Treatment)​

 

Before - If you have not yet had Osteopathy and have any concerns or questions regarding treatment the first step is to call us. A quick call with the Osteopath prior to treatment or a full telephone appointment may be necessary.

 

During - Your Osteopath will explain what they are doing and will always ask permission to treat you (known as consent). Ask questions at any time, if you are unsure of what you have been told or if you have any concerns.

 

After - Due to the physical nature of the treatment, it is not unusual to feel soreness in the first 24-48 hours after your treatment. Your Osteopath will explain any likely reactions that may occur. If you have any concerns, it is important to contact the Osteopath and ask their advice.
